Ands 37 of the initial contenders for the title of best European car of the year in the finals, only seven: Stelvio Alfa Romeo, Audi A8, BMW fifth series, Citroen C3 Aircross, Kia Stinger, Seat Ibiza and Volvo XC40. Behind these bright novelties, as the hatchback Ford Fiesta, Hyundai i30 and Kia Rio, the major liftbek Opel Insignia and Volkswagen Arteon, crossovers Kona Hyundai, Kia Stonic, Opel Crossland Grandland X and X, Karoq Skoda and Volkswagen T-Roc.
The selection was carried out by strict jury consisting of 60 automotive journalists of 23 European countries. In terms of competition it was attended by the new or significantly updated model went on sale in the 12 months prior to the date of announcement of winner – March 5, 2018 at the motor show in Geneva.
We will remind that last year the competition was won by the Peugeot 3008 crossover, which received a total of 319 points. Second place went to the Alfa Romeo Giulia sedan (296), and the third was the new Mercedes-Benz E-class (197). The most famous manufacturer is Fiat, which has nine European titles. Next is the Renault — six wins, Ford and Opel has collected five awards. Seven times won the competition for the PSA to four times the award went to Peugeot, the three – Citroen.
