The new sedan Volkswagen Jetta: first test drive!

SHE’S NOT GERMAN

The Jetta will be put on the Russian market from Mexico — indeed, in Europe the Jetta’s is no more. Turned option also produce in China, but it’s a different machine, which the Chinese know it under the name of Sagitar.

IT IS DIFFERENT

Finally, the Jetta has ceased to be the invisible car. A massive chrome grille and led headlamps evoke associations with the Passat and Touareg. The back is almost an Audi A3 or A4. Bright car!

IT’S BIG

Wheelbase as the Octavia, so the back seat is very spacious. The trunk is also huge. Accurate data yet, but roughly it’s capacity is about 510 litres. So, if someone dreamed about Octavia sedan, the Jetta is a great choice to.

IT IS CORRECT

In the sense that the new Jetta is built on a modular platform MQB and now technically she is virtually identical to the “seventh” Golf. For us, more importantly, in Russia, the Jetta will come with well-known engines 1.4 TSI (turbo, 150 HP) and aspirated 1.6 (110 HP). And “little” motor will deliver from Kaluga to Mexico, and already assembled Jetta with this engine will sail across the ocean to us. That’s really the logistics!

But more importantly, in addition to manual transmission, both engines can be paired with 6-speed hydromechanical automatic. Yes, the DSG is not for the Jetta. Who wanted a classic machine? Take it! And not lose because a bunch of motor 1.4 TSI and this machine seemed almost perfect: the activities in this little Jetta (Golf fitter), but all very logical and predictable. And certainly the machine will be less problem than the DSG.

IT IS COMFORTABLE

On the ride Jetta is clearly a better Golf — even on 17-inch wheels (there is another 16-inch). Suspension is such that not need to be adapted to our roads. Sufficient ground clearance of about 165 mm, according to my measurements.

Noise isolation is not standard (on the Golf course better), but quite decent. The materials of interior at the level of the “seventh” Golf course. There is climate control, adaptive cruise control, heated steering wheel, led headlamps and other buns.

IS IT EXPENSIVE?

The exact answer is no — the price will be announced next year. I can assume that imported Jetta will not be quite so cheap (even with a weird logistics), and the Assembly in Nizhny Novgorod to renew will not. On the other hand, the Jetta does not have to be expensive Golf. I hope that machine in the middle configuration will be not more expensive than 1.5 million rubles.
